Ssh pipe stream to mplayer
From LinuxNewbie
I have a box we call FreeVo that we ripped our DVDs to for easy convenient viewing. This stems from my dislike of getting up to do something I could do with a remote...
Recently I became interested in watching a movie on my laptop. I don't wan tto copy the whole movie over. That takes time and hard drive space. Well, the FreeVo has ssh, what if I could pipe it?
ssh video@192.168.0.9 'cat /home/dvdrip/ElmosABC.avi'|mplayer -
This way I can sing along with Elmo and learn my ABCs on my laptop. I simply pipe the avi to mplayer.
Cons: You can't pause I don't think, or rewind/fast forward.
Pros: Instant play. No waiting for the transfer. No HD space used. You could in theory place additional players elsewhere in the house and easily play your video collection :D
