Install samba server in Mandriva

Installing samba

  • Look at installable software
  • Star menu, System, Configuration, Configure Your Computer (enter root password) Select
  • In the search box, put "samba" (no quotes) and search. Install samba-server. samba-server selects samba-common.
  • Click install.

Samba is now installed to provide Windows file sharing

(skip next step if it is still open)

  • Star menu, System, Configuration, Configure Your Computer.
  • Select System on the left.
  • Click "Enable or disable the system services".
  • Scroll down to smb and click "Start".
  • Click OK.

Now we have started sharing, let configure what to share

  • Star menu, System, Configuration, Configure Your Desktop
  • Expand Network
  • Select File Sharing
  • Click the "Administrator Mode" button at the bottom and enter the root password

You can now add file shares. In addition you can click Allowed Users and select to allow users to share folders without the root password or allow member of a group to change shares.
